Exhibition Text
Calmness and mindfulness are depicted through the visuals that are presented in this piece. Presenting an imaginative visual with a solitary subject as the center. Cherry blossom trees are both aesthetically pleasing and meaningful to me as I consider them both beautiful and calming. Trying to become more mindful and concentrated has been a difficult task that I have strived to accomplish throughout my life. This piece serves as a visual representation of that struggle and the end goal that I am attempting to achieve. In the end, what I am hoping to do is to have grown as a person, the idea of growth is represented by the tree image. Growth of the mind is especially important to me.
Meaning Behind the Piece
Growth of the mind is the biggest idea that I'm striving to portray in this piece. Calmness and mindfulness are other underlying themes that are embedded to the visuals with specific symbols and stylistic choices. The first and most important choice was the decision to make the tree that is growing out of the woman's head, a cherry blossom tree. This choice was important in the way that it reflected my personal interests and and items that are meaningful to me. Cherry blossom trees to me, symbolize beauty, change, and serenity. These three traits are all aspects of my own definition of mindfulness. Mindfulness is the key to being happy and carefree, which I find trouble doing. Being mindful requires living in the moment and focusing solely on your surroundings and the feelings that arise from the situation at hand. The tree being the only thing to emerge from the woman's head symbolize both being focused on one feeling, in this case calmness, and it also symbolizes one's growth of mind.

Reflection
In hindsight, I do believe that I could have added more to the painting to make it more interesting and to fortify the meaning as well as make it more clear. An aspect of my painting that could have been improved immensely was the technique that was used to paint the face. My blending technique's could have been much better in order to improve the way that color and texture intermingled.
