Dry Point
With Rene Margritte as my biggest inspiration for this piece, I attempted to exhibit a similar style that presented similar subject matter. Much of his art consist of paintings of distorted human figures combined with objects. This piece is similar in the way that the humanly figure incorporates other objects that are significant to the piece as well as provide symbolism to formalize the meaning of the piece.
Meaning Behind the Piece
This piece addresses both the nature of human kind as well as the external forces that affect what it revolves around. The nature within a person can corrupt them and break them while forces of nature such as plant life like trees and flowers can positively affect humanity. Nature should be appreciated, although it's importance is often overlooked. In my piece I use the example of the branch that supporting a cup of tea that the woman is drinking to represent how external nature is helpful and aids in supporting human life. The woman's body is made of a sort of glass case, somewhat like a fish tank, and inside the fish tank is a squid that is using it's tentacle to embed a dart into the glass chest of the woman, willing it to break and cause the woman to fall apart.
Experimentation
These two images shown above are examples of how I failed to properly create a dry point print. Either by applying an insufficient amount of ink.
Planning
Planning Sketches
This is the original planning sketch that I created to use as a template for my dry point.
Artistic Inspiration: Rene Margritte
Rene Margritte is a Belgian surrealist artist who is well known for placing objects in situations with a strange context. His art is both weird and witty and these aspects are what captivates audiences.
Process
1. The first step in the process of creating a dry point print is creating a design. I went with the first sketch that I drew because I liked how strange and surreal it was.
2. I then had to recreate the design to be the same size as the plexiglass sheet that I would carve into.

Reflection
Creating a dry point piece was quite difficult but overall I managed to create an exquisite piece that I am proud of. The medium was new to me but the process was very straightforward and it was easy for me to realize what steps I needed to take in order to achieve my desired end result. The only truly difficult part of the process to me was actually doing those said steps of physically creating the piece.
